woman, was waiting in the car with the keys, while her daughter was shopping inside this hainesport supermarket. >> it was physical removal from the vehicle. >> reporter: is she okay. >> yes, she was okay. she denied medical assistance at the time. >> reporter: state police say woman's daughter return to find her mother sitting on you the side the car, now long gone, investigators say it is unlikely the thief had a weapon but the entire ordeal was unsettling for the eight two-year old woman. >> considering the age, the age of the victim, that i think people would agree it is more heinous. >> reporter: well, state police have provided a description of that suspected carjacker, he is described to be a black man standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, and 170-pound. they say he had raining braided hair and was wearing a white phillies baseball jersey, white pant and red shoes. of course, if you see this man or know anything about this carjacking, new jersey state police would like to hear from you. reporting live tonight, joe holden for cbs-3 "eyewitness

news". >> thanks, joe. new details on the scare at holland tunnel in north jersey 36789 men on a mission are arrested with a vehicle full of weapons. tonight "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos tells us about the local connection to this disturbing case. >> reporter: less than 30 minutes before port authority police pulled over this not so inn conspicuous pick up for crack in the windshield the driver, john ramsey, posted this to his face book page. going to a hotel to extract a 16 year-old girl, adding her friend died of her heroin overdose, i'm bringing her out of new york today and anybody else in that hotel that wants to go home too. >> shooting, training, instruction. >> reporter: he is owner of the gun range near allentown and two others with him never complete that had mission. port third police arrested the trio moment before they entered the holland tunnel and found the weapons inside their truck, including multiple handguns, one assault rifle, body arm or, knives, night

vision goggles and multiple round of ammunition. >> large majority of these weapons were loaded. >> i was surprised that he crossed state lines with firearms. yes, that i was surprised with. >> reporter: his good friend, chris says he isn't surprised that he was trying to save someone addicted to heroin. >> recently he lost his daughter and rededicated his life to stopping the heroin problem in the lehigh valley. >> reporter: four months ago his 20 year-old daughter died from an overdose. >> i lost my little girl. >> reporter: since then ramsey has made it his mission to stop the spread of what he says is a dangerous disease. >> extremely passionate, willing to die to save somebody's life and stop heroin problem, not only in the lehigh valley but every where. he wants it to come to an end because it is a huge problem. >> reporter: he and two others with him all from the lehigh valley remain in jail tonight, they all are facing weapons as well as marijuana-related charges but bail has been set at $57,000 each.

rorrer are reporting here from zionville i'm greg argos for cb36789 "eyewitness news". camden county officials spent the day preparing for the worst as they staged a response to a mass shooting incident again, this was all practice. police fire officials and emt's were at lindenwald high school to take part in this active shooter drill, they used mocked guns and practiced securing various parts of the building. delaware officials announced an alarming increase in overdose deaths, related to fentanyl a synthetic pain kill their is 50 times more potent they are heroin. it is reflective of the national trend that is new hitting home. >> health reporter stephanie stahl is here with more on why these officials are so worried. >> drug overdosees are leading cause of accidental deaths in the the nation. experts say opiates are driving this epidemic. the state of delaware is now rang ninth in the country for

overdose deaths. seventy-eight americans die each day from opiate overdoseness delaware, deaths from fentanyl a synthetic opiate are up 180 percent, fatal od's are related to both illegal and legal drugs. since 1999, the number of prescriptions sold for opiates has quadrupled and so has number of people who died from them. >> many clinicians overestimated the safety of these products and under estimate had their risk. >> reporter: caleb alexander has studied whether doctors are more cautious when prescribing drugs. >> all they there is some evidence that doctors are scaling back a little bit, we are a long way to go. >> reporter: more than 1,000 people are treated in emergency rooms every day for misusing prescription drugs. rock star prince, most recent high profile victim his autopsy revealed he died from an accidental fentanyl overdose and opiate much more powerful then other painkillers. in delaware from the start of the year to mid-may there were

44 fentanyl overdose deaths, in all of 2015, there were 42. >> fentanyl is one of the types of prescription opioids that accounts for disproportion nate number of injuries and deaths. >> reporter: cdc released guidelines for doctors earlier this year discouraging the prescribing of opiates for chronic pain and encouraging patient toss try over the counter medicines instead along with other measures. >> things such asthma sage, acupuncture, physical therapy. >> reporter: new governmental report says that more americans are embracing those alternative therapies, spending $0 billion a year out of pocket for them. but the opiate problem is also growing. officialness delaware today called the overdose death rates there heart breaking, adding that the fentanyl people are getting now is so toxic chances for survival is low. this is why it is so important to dress addiction, issues. the is there help out there. tough one. >> very tough. >> thanks, stephanie.

new jersey governor chris christie is renewing efforts to reduce property taxes in the state. today he urged the legislature to support his proposal to equally fund schools in the state. >> 29 percent cap has restrained property taxes, and if we pass this school funding formula you will see why the 2 t because if you give them all this money, they would want to spend it but with the 2 percent cap they will only spend 2 percent of the new money they get. >> christie satisfies christie's proposal would harm poor school districts in the state. philadelphia is preparing for democratic national convention next month and so is late show host, stephen colbert. colbert will be broadcasting live from new york, during the dnc and the republican convention, in cleveland. rnc is july 18th through 21st, dnc is 25th through the 28th. late show will also have a presence here in philadelphia, we will have much more on that in the coming days. with the dnc now just over

philadelphia fire department celebrated arrival of the new fire truck in west philadelphia today. >> engine 68 held a housing ceremony, in this er v pumper, during the event members of the fire department ceremony, pushing in the new apparatus, the philadelphia police and pipes and drums were there to mark the special occasion. city of philadelphia's public pool season opened up today with a plash. mayor jim kenney was on hand for kick off at maximizer recollect center in northeast philadelphia one of the eight pools that opened today. other 60 will open up on a rolling bases through july 1st. mayor kenney called public pool season one of the cities most cherished traditions and he had this message for the kid. >> listen to the life guards. be safe, look out for each other and make sure you are

the sun will come back in time for the first week even have of summer. we will take a look what is happening right now on storm scan three and we have clear skies, they have been with us all day, blue skies, sunshine, just a gorgeous summer day to day and lower humidity then we have been feeling as well. dew points in the 40's and 50's. to points are rising and we will be track risk for showers and thunderstorms. things are just starting to get underway in the midwest there is moderate risk for severe weather. that is not something we see all that often. that means decent threat for tornadoes and straight line wind across the midwest tonight. everything just starting to getting here as we are seeing showers and thunderstorms around earlier moving out. what we can expect is for these showers and storms to hold together, overnight, and then brush by us mainly hitting to the south. lets take a look. this is what we call an mcs or mess owe scale convective structure and thinks going to hold together starting tonight. notice right around chicago 10:00 p.m. pretty nasty thunderstorms right around the

chicago metro area. this then meets into a line of straight line wind. you can see nasty weather possible over portions of west virginia, overnight tonight into tomorrow morning and then by mid-morning we will start to see that system moving south of our region, clipping with us cloud and rain. what to expect as we head into tomorrow morning? we will expect threat for some rain early, and some cloud cover as well early in the day. that could inhibit things in the afternoon for us but if it clears out we will get sunshine we will watch for those, daytime heating type storms and there will be risk for severe weather. the bigger threat especially for strong to severe thunderstorms to our south and west but we cannot rule out afternoon severe thunderstorm damaging wind and downpours. rain in the morning. focus and zoom in on our region 8:00 a.m. we will have cloud. rain creeps from the the south and west. clips us around nine or 10:00 a.m. a soggy start to the morning. that then moves outs and any sun that peaks out may len itself to development of more thunderstorm activity in the afternoon and into tomorrow

night. mainly again off to the west and to the south but we have to keep a close eye on it tomorrow. tomorrow is a day to be ready for rain, strong thunderstorms at anytime. overnight increasing cloud, please apartment night at 68 degrees but tomorrow we will start with clouds, some rain by mid-morning and then threat for some strong then are storms in the afternoon. same story down the shore, showers possibly a storm. worst will stay to the west but definitely something to watch. does not look like a repeat of what they had yesterday thank goodness. friday and saturday look much better down the shore and quick peak at your seven day after tomorrow we have a great stretch starting friday and it will last right in the start of next week. >> looking good. >> thanks, kate, appreciate it. it is wednesday and that means vittoria woodill is down the shore. >> today she's catching dinner, torey. >> reporter: that is right i'm trying to catch my dinner and it starts with a little bait and putting it on one of these crab traps. we will see if i get lucky.

one lucky couple is spending the night at philadelphia's newest and tall's tracks. >> the people at one liberty observation deck turns the space in the sky line hotel suite. it is 57 store ace above the city making it philadelphia's highest hotel room, a contest was held to see who would spend the night in the suite and winners are rachel and renee of atlanta. 17,000 people entered that contest. >> very good.
